About Sycomp

Founded in 1994 by CEO Mike Symons, a former U.S. Marine, Sycomp has spent more than 30 years designing, delivering, and supporting complex IT infrastructure, cloud, AI, HPC, endpoint management, and security solutions for customers around the world. With integration centers in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, Sycomp provides technology integration and logistics to customers in more than 150 countries.
Its culture, shaped by Mike's leadership, is rooted in doing right by its people, its customers and partners, and the communities it serves.
Sycomp's sustainability program began with a customer requirement and has since grown into a competitive advantage. It shows how a fast-growing company can build a credible program step by step, balancing climate commitments with sound business decisions.
"We've always believed in investing in our culture and our communities. As we grow, we want to make sure the way we do business reflects those values, for our employees, our customers, and the places we operate."
– Mike Symons, CEO, Sycomp
How It Started: A Customer Requirement
In 2020, one of Sycomp's largest customers added sustainability requirements to its master service agreement. To continue doing business together, Sycomp needed to start measuring and reporting its emissions. That requirement quickly grew into a more formal program:
- The Right Tools: Sycomp chose Salesforce Net Zero Cloud (then Sustainability Cloud) to track emissions, building on the Salesforce platform it already used as its CRM.
- Using Existing Frameworks: With 2021 as its baseline year, Sycomp set an SBTi target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions 38% by 2030. SBTi's SME pathway gave the team a straightforward place to start.
- Expanding Scope: Sycomp began with Scope 1 and 2 across a handful of locations, then added Scope 3 upstream and downstream transportation with a third-party partner, and business travel using Concur data.
As Sycomp grew, the program grew with it. The company publishes an annual ESG report and shares its disclosures with customers through CDP and EcoVadis.
A Growing Expectation for Tech Suppliers
Sycomp's experience reflects a broader shift in the technology industry. The largest tech companies are asking more of their suppliers. For example, Microsoft requires suppliers to disclose Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, cut emissions tied to Microsoft-delivered goods and services by at least 55% by 2030, and move those goods and services to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. Salesforce's Sustainability Exhibit asks suppliers to publicly disclose their emissions and deliver their products and services on a carbon-neutral basis.
Many of the RFPs Sycomp responds to now include sustainability questions as well. With a measured footprint, EcoVadis and CDP reports, and an SBTi target, Sycomp can respond quickly with a credible program.
Reducing Where Possible
Sycomp focuses on reducing emissions where it can, and where it makes sense for the business:
- Renewable Energy: Sycomp's Burlingame Integration Center moved to 100% renewable energy in 2023 through its local utility's ECO100 plan. At its new Union City facility, the team enrolled in a 62.8% renewable energy program.
- On-Site Solar: Solar panels at the Burlingame facility generated 48.34 MWh of power in 2024. Sycomp completed the solar installation for their Miami facility in 2025.
- Efficient Facilities: Sycomp's Foster City office headquarters is in a LEED Gold certified building, and a shift to hybrid work let the company shrink its footprint from 6,561 to 4,901 square feet. The offices use LED lighting and occupancy sensors.
- Circular Economy: Through its Trade-In Made Easy (TIME) program, Sycomp helps customers recycle, take back, reuse, and refresh retired IT equipment. Their warehouses reuse vendor packaging and shipping crates wherever possible.
"We want to do the right thing for the planet and for the communities we serve, and at the same time be cost-justifiable from a business perspective."
– Stacy Hunter, Director, Quality Systems Compliance, Sycomp
Addressing Remaining Emissions
To address emissions it can't yet eliminate, Sycomp uses Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) like RECs for Scope 2 and high-quality carbon credits for Scope 1 and select Scope 3 categories. When Sycomp first started buying carbon credits, the focus was on low-cost projects in regions where it operates. As the team learned more about the carbon market and the importance of quality, its priorities shifted toward higher-integrity projects.
Why CNaught
In 2026, Sycomp partnered with CNaught for a number of reasons:
- Quality & Due Diligence: CNaught's project vetting gave leadership confidence that its investment supports credible, high-integrity projects, strengthening Sycomp's strategy year over year.
- A Combined Strategy: CNaught helped Sycomp design an approach that pairs EACs, bringing its Scope 2 footprint to zero, with a diversified portfolio of carbon credits. EAC purchases were matched to the markets where Sycomp uses electricity, and the full program stayed within budget.
- Built-in Dashboard Tools: The CNaught platform provides turnkey CDP reporting and RFP responses, making other parts of the sustainability role easier.
"The climate projects we support have to be vetted and verified. CNaught's due diligence gave us confidence that our investment is going to high-quality projects that make a real difference, including in regions where our teams live and work."
– Neal Callahan, COO, Sycomp
Impact in Action
In 2026, Sycomp engaged the services of Keramida, Inc. to independently review and validate their Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions. The assessment confirmed Sycomp's offsetting of 1,734 tonnes of carbon emissions and 605 MWh of renewable energy certificates through CNaught. Sycomp's carbon credit portfolio supports 6 projects around the world, including methane abatement in Louisiana and landfill gas capture in Brazil, both regions where Sycomp operates. That's the equivalent of 28,661 new trees planted and 4,308 flights between LA and New York avoided.

"I was really impressed with CNaught's dashboard, which provides tools that make my life easier, from CDP reporting to marketing support. I've also learned so much from their team of experts, on both the carbon credit and REC side."
– Stacy Hunter, Director, Quality Systems Compliance, Sycomp
Looking Ahead
Demand for security solutions and data-intensive workloads is fueling Sycomp's next phase of growth. Its new Union City facility will serve as a technology center for integrating compute-intensive systems, including testing water-cooled racks before they ship to customers.
As Sycomp expands, its Scope 1 and 2 emissions will rise, making its 2030 SBTi target more challenging. The team plans to keep reducing emissions where it can and to use EACs and carbon credits for the rest as it scales.
Sycomp is also helping customers manage the footprint of AI itself. As an expert in providing customers with innovative compute and storage solutions, Sycomp couples their expertise with their OEM partners to design and deliver solutions which can require less processing power in the data center versus other alternatives.
In 2027, the Sycomp team is planning to look into setting baselines for water use and waste management.
