Avoided EmissionsUnited States

Anson County Landfill

Project Description

The Anson County Landfill is located in Polkton, North Carolina. The landfill's current contructed footprint is around 40 acres. The landfill gas collection and control system was voluntarily installed in 2008 and consists of 15 vertical extraction wells connected to a utility flare. The landfill gas is measured for flow, temperature, and methane content. Without the project, that gas would have been vented to the atmosphere. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, so destroying it avoids emissions. The project also improves local air quality, cuts odor, and reduces methane-related fire and explosion risk around the site.

Risk of Potential Reversals

This project has no risk of reversal because its avoided emissions are not subject to being undone.
